What We Are About
Children’s Village is a center based
inclusive preschool program designed to meet the individual needs of
children with and without disabilities. We believe that children grow into
tolerant and caring citizens when provided with a supportive learning
environment that values diversity and cooperation. We also believe that the
support of families, educators, neighbors, health care providers and the
greater community contributes to this growth. Together, this village and
community can bring children to their full potential.
Serving
the Community
Children’s Village, formerly known
as OCM BOCES Preschool, has been a community-based program for 28 years. It
began as a self-contained preschool program for children with special needs
in 1981. In 1989, the program began a process of inclusive options for
preschoolers with disabilities in area nursery schools, day care centers and
Head Start programs. In 2006, we moved our program into the Park Hill School
and established a collaboration with the East Syracuse-Minoa School District
Pre-K Program. This collaboration resulted in our classrooms becoming
fully inclusive. Each of our classrooms have a mix of children with
and without disabilities.
