Deaf
and Hard Of Hearing Program
Our program for young children who
are deaf or hard-of-hearing is over 30 years old. It began out of a
need for children who were traveling outside this area seeking the
specialized intervention.
Our current program includes two
inclusive components.
We operate a half-day
auditory/oral classroom
for children who may require a more auditory/oral approach. The
enrollment in this inclusive classroom is composed of children who are
hard-of-hearing wearing aids or who are deaf and have a
cochlear implant. This specialized
program includes auditory/verbal interventions that include hearing
development. Children without a disability provide good speaking
models.
We also have a half-day inclusive program for children who require
a total communication approach.
Sign language is the primary means of communication for this population of
young children.
In addition to the 3 and 4 year
olds, we do enroll children who are 2 years old and whose 3rd birthday will
be within the current school year.
Speech/language therapy,
audiology services, occupational therapy and physical therapy are available for children
enrolled in this program.
Six week summer program is also
available.
